Chapter 3

THE ABANDONED CHAPEL
The air grew heavy as Kael entered the Stone Labyrinth. Enormous stone blocks, sculpted by erosion and time, rose around him, creating a maze of narrow, winding corridors.
The silver medallion hanging around his neck glowed faintly, pulsing with a blue-green light that illuminated the path ahead, but also revealed the presence of dense shadows lurking in the dark corners.
“They are here,” Kael whispered, his voice echoing among the stones. He sensed the presence of the shadow creatures, dark and amorphous beings that moved with supernatural agility.
The medallion glowed more intensely, indicating danger ahead. Kael summoned his shadows, dark and obedient entities he could control through the medallion. They materialized, shimmering like black mists, ready to defend him.
“Protect me,” Kael commanded, his voice firm despite the fear.
The shadows spread, sliding along the stone walls, their indistinct outlines merging with the natural shadows of the labyrinth. A whisper echoed through the narrow passages.
“You shall not pass,” hissed a hoarse, almost inaudible voice. A creature of shadows emerged from the darkness, its eyes gleaming with a sinister red light. It was a grotesque being, with elongated and twisted limbs, its form contorting as if made of smoke.
“I need to pass,” Kael replied, drawing his sword. “And I will pass.”
The fight was swift and brutal. Kael used his sword and the agility of his shadows to dodge the creature's attacks, while his shadows gripped it, trapping it with their black tentacles.
The creature let out a sharp cry as it was subdued by Kael's shadows.
“Further on,” whispered one of his shadows, indicating a narrow, dark passage. Kael pressed forward, the medallion pulsing with each step, guiding him through the labyrinth.
He faced other shadow creatures, each more terrifying than the last: a mass of shadows that moved like a wave, a winged being that darted from the tops of the rocks, and a wolf-like creature that howled with terrifying fury. With each encounter, his shadows defended him, fighting alongside him.
He heard their whispers, their warnings, their tales of the traps and dangers that lay ahead. It was a silent but effective communication, a deadly dance between light and shadow.
In a moment of extreme tension, the medallion shone with blinding intensity, warning of a deadly trap. A passage that seemed safe was, in fact, a trap of stones falling from the ceiling. Guided by the medallion's intense glow, Kael veered at the last instant, narrowly escaping death.
“It almost got us,” whispered one of his shadows. Finally, after hours of struggle and navigation, Kael sighted an exit, a sliver of light tearing through the darkness of the labyrinth.
He emerged, exhausted but victorious, the medallion pulsing softly on his chest, a testament to his journey through the deadly maze. The experience had scarred him, but it had also strengthened him, preparing him for the challenges that still awaited him.
The water of the Rio Negro was pitch black, reflecting only the pale light of the silver medallion Kael carried. The current was strong, relentless, pulling the makeshift raft—made of tree trunks and vines—with force.
The air was heavy, laden with the smell of dampness and something indefinitely menacing. “Careful,” whispered one of Kael’s shadows, its voice like a sigh of the wind. “There’s something below.” The medallion pulsed, a blue-green light cutting through the darkness of the water. Kael
gripped the medallion, feeling the energy flow from it into his shadows. They stretched out, snaking through the water, like black tentacles probing the depths.
“There are many,” reported another shadow. “Large creatures with sharp teeth.”
Suddenly, the water churned. A huge creature emerged from the depths, its dark, scaly skin glistening in the faint glow of the medallion. Its yellow eyes gleamed with a voracious thirst.
“A predator from the depths,” whispered a shadow, its outline becoming sharper and more menacing.
“Beware its tail.” The creature lunged, its powerful tail striking the raft. Kael balanced himself, struggling to keep the vessel steady.
His shadows swooped down on the creature, seizing it with their black tentacles, trying to distract it. “Grab it!” Kael shouted, his voice hoarse. “Don’t let it get any closer!”
The fight was fierce. The creature fought with incredible strength, its skin resistant to Kael's sword blows.
But the shadows aided him, trapping the creature, preventing it from getting too close. He could hear its whispers, its warnings, its strategies. It was a silent but effective communication.
A deadly dance between the light of the medallion, the shadows, and the creature's fury. “She’s tiring,” whispered a shadow, watching the creature struggle with less force.
Kael seized the opportunity, delivering a precise blow with his sword, striking a vulnerable point on the creature. With a final roar, the creature sank into the depths, leaving behind churning water.
“We move forward,” Kael said, taking a deep breath, feeling both exhaustion and relief. The medallion pulsed softly, as if approving of his victory. The journey was still long and dangerous, but he had overcome yet another obstacle, with the help of his shadows and the medallion's guidance. Nature was unforgiving, yes, but he was stronger, smarter, more resilient. He would move forward.

But, at the same time that the Crystal emanated light, it attracted shadows, it attracted the Silent Ones. Kael knew that his journey was far from over. The battle for the Crystal of Lazuli was only beginning.
Finally, after weeks of danger and challenges, Kael arrived at the abandoned chapel. On the ruined altar, the Crystal of Agva shone brightly. But around the Crystal, shadows gathered, forming a dark and menacing mass.
The Silent Ones were there. The shadows stirred, forming a dark and menacing mass. The Silent Ones were there, their eyes gleaming with an insatiable thirst for power. “The Crystal is ours,” growled a deep, menacing voice. “Lazuli will be ours.”
Finally, after weeks of pursuit, riddles, and dangers, Kael arrived at the last location indicated by the runes: an ancient, abandoned chapel on the outskirts of Lazuli.
“The Crystal is near,” whispered a shadow, its voice filled with dark energy. “But the price to obtain it will be high.”
There, on the ruined altar, he found the Crystal of Agva. It was a shining stone, emanating an intense light that seemed to defy the darkness surrounding it. Kael stared at the Crystal, his hand trembling. He knew the battle was about to begin. And he was not alone.
The shadows, his allies and enemies, were by his side, ready to fight for the survival of Lazuli, and for their own. Kael picked up the Crystal. It was a radiant stone, pulsing with an energy that made him dizzy. “The Crystal of Agva…” Kael whispered, amazed and terrified at the same time. “But… I am not alone.”
““He’s here,” hissed a shadow, its voice like the whisper of an icy wind. “The Crystal. But the price… the price is high.” Kael gripped the Crystal, feeling its energy flow through his fingers. “I know,” he replied, his voice firm despite the fear.
“I need to protect it from the Silent Ones.” “They’re nearby,” warned another shadow, deeper, more sinister. “Their whispers fill the air.
They feed on fear, on despair. And you… you have so much to lose.” Suddenly, a hissing sound cut through the silence.
Shadows materialized, taking shape, revealing skeletal and grotesque figures, the Silent Ones. Their eyes gleamed with an inner light, cold and relentless, with an insatiable thirst for power.
The shadows stirred, forming a dark and menacing mass. The Silent Ones were there. "The Crystal is ours," growled one of the Silent Ones, his voice a cavernous echo. "It belongs to the shadows." "Lazuli will be ours." "Not while I'm alive," replied Kael, clutching a dagger he had found in one of the secret passages.
“The Crystal is ours, boy,” hissed a Silent One, its voice a scraping of bones. “Give it up, and your life will be spared.” “Never,” replied Kael, his voice firm despite the fear gnawing at him. “I will protect Lazuli, even if I have to face the darkness.” “He’s stubborn,” commented a shadow, its voice a chilling whisper. “But his courage is admirable.” “Admirable, but useless,” retorted another shadow, darker still. “He can’t win alone.
” The silver medallion on his chest pulsed, radiating a faint light that contrasted with the darkness of the Silent Ones. “Use the medallion, Kael,” a shadow whispered. “It will amplify your ability to control shadows.
But remember, power comes at a price.” Kael concentrated, feeling the medallion’s energy flow through his body. It was a strange force, a connection to the shadows, a power he had not yet fully mastered. “I am not alone,” Kael told the Silent Ones, his eyes gleaming with a newfound determination. “The shadows are with me.”
The shadows around him stirred, responding to his call. He manipulated them, creating shields of darkness; others transformed into blades of darkness, ready to strike, deflecting the attacks of the Silent Ones.
“Then let’s fight,” growled a Silent One, lunging at Kael. “You won’t reach him,” Kael shouted, his voice echoing through the chapel. He fought not only the Silent Ones, but also his own shadows, his own fears.
The battle was frenetic, a deadly dance between light and shadow. Kael dodged the Silent Ones’ attacks, using the shadows to defend and counterattack. “Watch out, Kael!” a shadow cried, warning him of a surprise attack. Kael threw himself aside, avoiding a fatal blow.
He felt the Crystal’s energy pulsing in his hands, strengthening him, but also draining him. “He’s losing strength,” whispered another shadow, its voice full of concern. “The Crystal is draining him.”
Kael felt exhaustion overwhelming him, but he refused to give in. He had to protect the Crystal, he had to protect Lazuli. He remembered the old man's words: the Crystal's power could destroy or save the city. He had to choose the right path. “He is strong, Kael,” whispered a shadow, observing the fight. “But the Silent Ones are numerous. You need a plan.” With one last effort, Kael concentrated, searching for a strategy. He realized that the Silent Ones were vulnerable to light, to positive energy. The Crystal emanated an intense light, but it was a light that attracted shadows. He needed to find a balance, a way to use the light to combat the shadows. Kael, between two blows, had an idea: concentrate the light of the Crystal! And use the light of the medallion as a weapon! He concentrated his energy on the Crystal, amplifying its light with that of the medallion, creating a blinding glare that blinded the Silent Ones. Kael seized the opportunity, attacking with his shadows. The shadows around him merged, forming a single, powerful being of darkness. With a roar, he launched himself upon the Silent Ones, defeating them one by one.
When the dust settled, the chapel was in ruins, but Kael stood, the Crystal of Agva in his hands. Shadows surrounded him, but now they seemed calmer, more serene. “Well done, Kael,” whispered a shadow, its voice full of pride. “You have mastered the shadows, and the shadows have served you.” “You have won, Kael,” whispered another shadow, its voice full of respect. “You have controlled the shadows, and the shadows have controlled you. You are the Guardian now.” Kael knew his journey was far from over. The Crystal's energy calmed, its light soft and serene. Kael was exhausted, but victorious. The battle for the Crystal of Agva had begun, but the fight for Lazuli's survival continued. The shadows still existed, and Lazuli's secrets still needed to be unveiled. His journey was far from over. And he, the young man who saw the shadows, was now their protector.
Kael, holding the Agva Crystal securely in his hands, felt the energy pulsing, a raw, uncontrollable force. The shadows around him stirred, some dancing in jubilation, others whispering warnings. “The power is yours, Kael,” one shadow whispered, its voice melodious and seductive. “Lazuli’s fate is in your hands.” “Beware,” warned another shadow, its voice harsh and menacing. “The Crystal is a double-edged sword. It can corrupt you, destroy you.” Kael sensed the truth in both statements. The Crystal was a source of immense power, but also a dangerous temptation. He could feel the darkness calling to him, whispering promises of limitless power. “I will not let myself be corrupted,” he murmured, gripping the Crystal tightly. “I will use this power to protect Lazuli.”
“Your determination is admirable, Kael,” said a shadow, its voice full of admiration. “But the Silent Ones will not give up so easily. They will return, stronger, more determined.” Kael knew the fight was far from over. He had defeated the Silent Ones in the chapel, but they were beings of shadow, capable of regenerating, of infiltrating anywhere. He needed a plan, a strategy to confront them definitively. He sought out Sanem, the young woman he had found, an unexpected but valuable ally. He found her in her workshop, surrounded by tools and ancient scrolls. “Sanem,” said Kael, showing her the Crystal. “I need your help.” Sanem examined the Crystal carefully. “I knew you would find it,” she said, her eyes shining with admiration. “But what do you intend to do with it?” “I need to use your power to protect Lazuli from the Silent Ones,” Kael replied. “But I need to understand this power better, how to control it.”
Sanem agreed to help him. Together, they studied the ancient scrolls, uncovering secrets about the history of Lazuli and the Crystal of Agva. They learned about the Shadow Guardians, the masters of shadows who had protected the Crystal for centuries. They discovered that the Crystal was not only a source of power, but also a key, a key to a portal to another dimension. “The Silent Ones want to open that portal,” Sanem explained. “They want to invade Lazuli, and perhaps even our world.” “Then we have to stop them,” said Kael, his determination unwavering. “But how?” The shadows whispered around them, offering advice, revealing clues. “Seek the Sanctuary of the Moon,” one shadow whispered. “There, you will find the strength to defeat the Silent Ones forever.” Kael and Sanem followed the clue, facing new dangers, new challenges. They encountered unlikely allies, treacherous enemies, and dark secrets about the history of A...
